4Gbps 2R Multi-rate Transponder - Optical Line Protection

CT-FRM220-4G-3S

Image

FRM220-4G-3S is an optical transponder card supporting speeds of up to 4.25Gbps

  • Multi-rate - supports 28Mbps to 4.25Gbps
  • Use for CWDM/DWDM wavelength conversion or as an optical repeater
  • 1+1 automatic optical line protection is supported for line side fibre ports
  • Stand alone or rack mount
  • Network management via HTTP, Telnet and SNMP when used with companion NMC card
  • Local configuration via DB9 console port (when placed in CH01M or CH02M)
  • Digital diagnostic monitoring of SFP modules

Overview

FRM220-4G-2S  is a multi-rate, up to 4.25G 2R optical repeater device. The "2R" consists of Re-amplification and Re-shaping. The transponder card converts a data signal to the correct wavelength for transmission on a specific channel by supporting SFP optics on both line side and client side interfaces.. When FRM220-4G-2S  card is placed in FRM220 rack with SNMP management, the management can view the converter card's status, type, version, fibre link status and alarms. The card can be configured to enable or disable the port, reset the port, provide client or line side diagnostic loopback, and set the desired data rate.

Optical fibre protection

1+1 Optical Protection

FRM220-4G-3S  is in every way the same as the 2S model except an additional optical port is added to provide 1+1 optical protection. Automatic optical line Protection Switching is supported for the aggregate fibre port.

Management

Both models have a single on-board 8 pole DIP Switch which can be used to configure the devices for stand-alone operation. When placed in a stand- alone chassis with console port, these devices also support a text based serial terminal with an easy to use menu system for configuration. When placed in a managed chassis, the card is configured and monitored through the chassis NMC (network management controller) via console, Telnet, Web HTTP or SNMP.

Loop back Testing (LBT):

The loopback capability of FRM220-4G is useful for debugging a dysfunctional link, or when commissioning a site. In loopback mode, the signal is routed into the Cross Switch circuitry and then routed back to the signal source. Loopback may be enabled via DIP switch (FRM220-4-2S only) or management terminal console. When placed in a managed FRM220-CHxx (see below ) chassis, the loop back can be controlled by the NMC manager in FRM220 chassis.
