Overview

The FRM220-E1/T1 is a fibre optic modem for G.703 E1/T1 transmissions. The BNC model provides unbalanced 75Ohm coaxial BNC E1 connections while the RJ-45 model provides balanced 120Ohm E1 or 100 Ohm T1 connections via an RJ45 interface.

The FRM220-E1/T1 can be configured either via onboard DIP switches, via local console when located in a console managed chassis or via Web/SNMP when located alongside the FRM220-NMC card.

When the FRM220-E1/T1 card is placed in the FRM220 rack with in-band management the operational status of the  fibre and E1 / T1 link and alarms for both the local and remote unit can all be displayed. Configuration is also available to enable or disable the port, reset the port and initiate local or remote loopback tests.

When connected to a remote FRM220-Data, it becomes possible to convert E1 transmissions to a synchronous serial interface such as RS530, X.21 or V.35. Thus eliminating the need for additional equipment.

Primary Rate ISDN extension over fibre with the FRM220-E1/T1

The following shows how the FRM220-E1R can be configured to extend an ISDN30 primary rate service. The FRM220-E1/T1 can be configured via onboard DIP switches when deployed as a standalone unit. When the FRM220-E1/T1 is used in conjunction with the network management card (FRM220-NMC) then all configuration can be done via HTTP, Telnet or SNMP and the DIP positions are disregarded.
