Optical Protection Switch - Singlemode
CT-FRM220-OPS51/2
Optical protection switch with threshold management
- Provides fibre path redundancy
- In case of a fibre failure in the active path, traffic will be switched over to the protected path
- Monitoring and management is available via HTTP/SNMP
- Protection transition < 20 ms (-OPS52), < 50 ms (-OPS51)
- Works across entire C/DWDM spectrum
- 3 modes : revertive, non-revertive, manual (OPS52) or non-revertive, manual (OPS51)
- Programmable RX threshold
Overview
The FRM220-OPS Series provide fibre path redundancy on a channel by channel basis. These units are particularly well suited for protection in any type of fibre data transmission, including CWDM & DWDM links. The OPS52 includes monitoring capabilities for both the working and protected path fibres. In case of a fibre cut in the active path, traffic will be switched over to the protected path in less than 50ms (FRM220-OPS51) or 20ms (FRM220-OPS52). Monitoring is available through SNMP Management when both cards are placed in FRM220 racks with SNMP management. The management can view the converter card's status, type, version, fibre link status and alarms. The card can be configured to enable or disable the port, reset the port, and configure receive threshold levels for path switching.

Protection modes
The FRM220-OPS51 works in point-to-point applications, either as a standalone or when placed in FRM220-CH20 managed rack. It has the ability to provide non-revertive or manual redundancy Optical Line Protection (OPS) for single input, repeater/media converters, CWDM or DWDM applications. This first application of protection is line side protection. In this setup, the COM connectors actually face the clients.
The second application provides for redundant clients and automatic fall over. In both applications, the state of the path is maintained in the event of power failure. (Latching type optical switch is employed.)
Management
The OPS card can be completely managed and monitored when placed in any 2, 8 or 20 slot managed chassis. When placed with NMC card in 2-slot chassis, the OPS becomes a complete SNMP managed stand-alone Optical Protection Switch. Alternatively console management may be used when placed in the 1-slot CH01M or 2-slot CH02M chassis, by connecting a simple serial terminal such as a laptop computer that has an RS232 port or via a commonly available USB to RS232 adapter.
